Did you know?
~ Generally, hosta grow happiest with filtered shade in the southern half of the states, and morning sun in the northern half.
~
Chinese species need full sun in northern climes to blossom properly.
~ Hosta enjoy fertile (slightly acid), moist, but well drained soil with much water; but is tolerant of dry conditions once established.
~
They are water lovers, and during dry times, consistent watering is a must for optimal growth and mantenance.
~ The larger the leaf, the more water the plant requires.
~ During the hottest months, augment your watering with a showering of the leaves helps alleviate the stress of transpiration.
~ Using a thick layer of mulch to retain moisture and protect the roots is of great benefit. Always around, but not on, the plant.
~ Hosta perform their best in zones 3-8.
